Welcome - this website is evolving!

- as I have done in the last few years.

I have turned 64.

"Do you still love me? Do you still need me?"

It is time for me to give back.

What is the unique contribution that I may still give

in the years of active life that I have left?

I've summed this up in the new strapline for this website:

Global democracy, caring community, poetry

- in that order.

1) Global democracy: I consider incipient creeping authoritarianism as the world's biggest threat - even bigger than climate change. Indeed, it is a response by the world's various elites to the well-known seriousness of climate breakdown - the only way that the few might preserve their lives and luxuries while the rest of us suffer the consequences. Authoritarianism takes many forms - from extreme state surveillance in some places, through types of pseudo-fascism in others

to the subtle manipulation of mass advertising and media.

Each one strives for an insidious control of the minds and habits of the mass of people in its orbit.

The only response can be a strong reassertion of true democracy.

And that does not mean occasional elections of party politicians.

No, party politics is not fit for the 21st century and only increases social divisions.

What we need is a re-invented form of governance at local, national AND global levels

that represents the whole population in all its diversity.

Sortition, government by lot, Citizens Assemblies are the best means to ensure this.

There is a growing wave of them around the world.

And the first tentative Global randomly-selected Assembly was held in 2021.

The stories of its participants are inspiring.

Eventually, power WILL have to come to the 99%

because it is humanity's only hope of survival.

I seek to promote Citizens Assemblies locally in the places where I believe that I can make the most difference personally.

2) Caring community

From family to local neighbourhood communities,

through city meet-ups to global online communities of people with shared passions,

human connection has become so much more important since the Covid pandemic.

I aim to take part in and foster the few that I can.

Coaching and work colleagues and running workshops can be part of that

- and supporting the formal care sector.

3) Poetry

For many years, I've written bits of poetry and short stories and occasionally performed it.

Some things can only be expressed in this way, it seems.

I don't want to give that up.

I may slowly increase the number of poems  on my Blogs page

(which also includes a couple of extracts from my book on leadership in ASC).

And finally, all these high aspirations are well and good, but I do also need to continue earning some income. I hope to switch back to a portfolio, freelance revenue earning life to subsidise other activities. For that reason, I am leaving the rest of this website as it is.

For my professional experience see the Careers page.
